Black Orchid by Neil GaimanMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Not a re - imagining nor a remake but a whole new take on the Black Orchid character that ties her into the Swamp Thing universe. Neil Gaiman's dreamy prose and Dave Mckean's sometimes almost abstract art make for a perfect combination. The story is fairly simple as the "new" Black Orchid tries to find out just who and what she is. At the same time people from her past try to use her for their own ends, including Lex Luthor. Both Swamp Thing and Batman make cameo appearances but their involvement is minimal. Works very well as a stand-alone story within the DC Universe.
